Impact stats of the NBA is not exactly a team statistic, but it is not individual. On https://www.nba.com/ There are now two very interesting tools for evaluating the success of certain combinations of players. Yes, the impact section allows you to understand how certain players affect each other and their partners. For example, you can see how Harden and Westbrook interact. Is the Rockets’ net rating better when they’re both on the floor or when Harden plays without Westbrook? Does Russ start throwing more accurately when Harden is on the floor? Does protection get better when they are both on the bench? Rivers throws more accurately, playing only with Harden or playing only with Westbrook? Everything is already counted.
This is a very important thing when evaluating team leaders. Can they play without each other? Do they make each other better? And, as a result, should they be bred by the minute?
You can look at the influence of players of different teams in matches between them, but here, for obvious reasons, the selection does not allow to conclude (in the regular season). If you look at the opposition of players, the statistics on match-ups are more informative. The metric allows you to see who is usually defended against whom, and how successful different players are in such match-ups. For example, through whom LeBron attacks most often or against whom he throws the worst. The selection is again small but describes the extreme cases accurately. If someone can’t defend against LeBron, it’s obvious, if someone does a really good job, it’s also noticeable.
The second interesting section is the lineups. All the top five NBAs on one page. Visualization is very convenient, you can immediately see which combinations were played a lot and which were the most successful. You can sort the combination not only by “net rating”, but also by accuracy, the efficiency of the opponent’s throws, and the share of throws that are scored in the early attack. Of course, it is not necessary to be attached to the top five – you can look at a combination of 2, 3, or 4 players.
