The Rangers spent a lot of time and effort this winter to secure themselves a strong rotation after finishing their third consecutive season with a negative win-loss margin. Unfortunately, the plan failed, and the Rangers are at the foot of the league table. Thus, the Texas Rangers want to keep Corey Kluber on the team next season to fix the situation.

Corey Failed to Meet the Team’s Expectations

One of the main flaws in the transfer policy of the club was the acquisition of two-time Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber from Cleveland. High hopes were pinned on Kluber, who recovered from the injury which shortened the 2019 season. However, the experienced starter tore a shoulder muscle already in his first game of the current regular season. Subsequently, he was eliminated before the end of the championship.

The Texas Rangers want to keep Corey Kluber on the team next season, though. The veteran has an $ 18 million club option in his contract, and according to general manager Jon Daniels, the Rangers would like to keep Kluber in the squad for the next season, revising the options in the direction of a logical salary cut.

No One to Play?

The contract option can be redeemed for as little as $ 1 million, so Texas is not particularly financially at risk. The problem is that the Rangers may find themselves in a situation where they have no one to play. Besides, there is no guarantee that the gorgeous Lance Lynn will stay in Texas for the start of preseason next spring.
Also, Gibson and Lyles are hard to count on in the future based on their current performance. Moreover, none of the other pitchers available are impressive. Consequently, Texas has enough reasons to keep Kluber “at a discount”, if he, of course, agrees to it.
