As events have shown, there is nothing stable in the world, and this is even true in regards to the salaries of the top NBA players. And the reason for this, as is well known, is the coronavirus.  The games were stopped on March 11th after the first basketball player tested positive for COVID-19. The coronavirus was called a pandemic on the same day.  Up to now, there is no official information or at least reliable data on when the season will continue.  But, as you can see, the NBA`s higher-ups need not only to decide the future of the league’s season, but also must consider financial issues.

According to insider information, players continue to receive full pay as of April 1st, but that’s all good news for them. The NBA reserves the right not to pay the full amount of their salaries if the games do not take place. By the way, the next stage of payments is planned for April 15, but it is not clear yet what sums the players will receive.

The organization itself refers to the fact that in the collective agreement there is a paragraph stating that in a case of emergency, the NBA has the right to deduct salary interest. They also consider a pandemic to be among such emergencies.

However, the exact decision on salary payments will be announced soon. Meanwhile, the NBA has already managed to send basketball players some clarifications on the issue. It is known that in extreme or unforeseen circumstance an organization can pretend on 1.1% of a player’s salary for each canceled game.

It must be said, players will not lose much, but if the situation is not decided soon, then their income will decrease. One thing is clear, that absolute majority will make a loss, starting from a regular employee on the basketball court, ending with the NBA.
