Major League Baseball and The Major League Baseball Players Association, despite some differences, are still trying to save the season and make it even better. If we see baseball this year, what will change in MLB when it returns?
Mic’d Up Players
Baseball should be more accessible in every way. Thus, management plans to introduce new technologies. They want to actively use microphones so that fans can hear the players’ conversations as well as understand all their emotions. It’s not a joke. A microphone will be placed near the first-base bag.
A similar experiment has already been conducted in the league. Pete Alonso carried a microphone in March during training. This idea came from ESPN. Consequently, the fans learned a lot about him, starting with his dog’s name, ending with the fact that Pete is very self-critical and considers himself stupid if everything doesn’t go well.
Playoffs Will Be Expanded
The postseason of Major League Baseball has always undergone changes. It all started with the World Series, which, after a while, transformed into two rounds, and then three. Besides, there were Wild Card knockout rounds. Teams have also been expanded, from 4 to 10.
Moreover, ten teams were to participate in the 2020 and 2021 seasons previously. However, the number should increase to 16, which is 8 per league. The format also provides for three division winners, as well as five teams from Wild Cards rounds.
However, it could make sense if there were about 70 games in a season. Nevertheless, in this case, we are talking about the full season of 162 games. In principle, pitchers will not pay taxes. That is why they can easily play more games. The main advantage here is that the more games, the more revenue MLB has from broadcasting.
What do you think about the changes? Do you like them?
