The Astros’ Yordan Alvarez is out of the season because of a knee injury. He missed not only Summer Camp but also the first three weeks of this season, as he was recovering from COVID-19.
So, Alvarez will undergo surgery next week to have his knee repaired. It is worth mentioning that it’s not the first time Alvarez has had his knee injured.
Knee problems are one of the most common and unpleasant problems baseball players get, and it takes a long time to recover.
Alvarez’s results in the previous season
Yordan Alvarez is rather a promising player, he has shown great results before. He hit six homers in his first four games.
Thus, last season he barged to AL ROY honors for Houston with a standout OPS+ of 172 and 27 home runs in 87 games.
He is one of the best Astros’ players, so it remains to be seen whether they will have good results without him, as for now, they are at number six in the AL in runs scored.
So, since Alvarez is out for this season, he is going to get primary DH duty for Houston.
Future predictions for the Astros
The Astros will have to rotate players due to Alvarez’s injury. The group will likely include Kyle Tucker, Abraham Toro, and Michael Brantley.
In fact, it’s a huge problem for the Astros to lose such a good player, as it reduces their chances greatly. All in all, they have plenty of time to work on their skills and gaming strategies, as they’ll have to wait until 2021 for Alvarez to come back.
Conclusion
The season-ending injury Alvares has suffered from is a pity, but who knows, it will probably help him to understand what he’d like to do in the future.
