Losing and rebounding the ball will always be part of the game in basketball. The speed of basketball makes losing the ball a possible scenario, but the skill of the players makes it possible to rebound the ball effectively. Teams can prevent the repetition of the same mistakes regularly.

Today, as part of our weekly section, we will talk about the percentage of losses and the percentage of ball rebounds. These indicators are the basis of the so-called 4-factor statistics of basketball.

The percentage of losses (TOV%) and the percentage of rebounds (RB%) shows which team of these shots had more. If you rarely lose the ball and often pick up the ball in attack, you are more likely to hit in the ring. This can help with even not the best throw efficiency. Again, in percentage terms, such data is more useful. They allow you to count not the number of losses per match, but the number of losses per 100 ball possession. Or not the number of rebounds of the ball in the game, but the part of allowable rebounds of the ball. That makes more sense.

For example, Utah and Miami go roughly in the middle part this table for the loss of the ball. But their loss percentage is 6th -7th  place in the League at the end. And all because they play very slowly, and they just have less possession per match, which means less chance of losing the ball. But in each attack, the chances of losing are quite high.

RB% shows how heroically the team plays. The team has every chance to win the game, provided that it creates a significant advantage in the selection of the ball compared to the opponent. Rebounds are an important aspect of the game, which is usually taken into account by coaches and players.

The most common problem that often results in ball losses or low TOV% is the players’ rush when they own it. This happens through nerves. Also, players simply hurry during the game. The desire to increase the pace of the game sometimes forces players to make similar mistakes.

Pick up of the ball continues to the attack, and losing the ball completes the process. Losing and rebounding a ball is a major factor affecting team play. The loss and rebound approach is a direct extension of the offensive and defensive philosophy of the game.
