Legendary basketball player Shaquille O’Neal spoke about getting acquainted with coach Dale Brown, who played an important role in his formation, during which he played 3 seasons at Louisiana State University.

“At 13, my height was 205 cm, I had no confidence in myself at all and I couldn’t do anything on the playground. I doubted I would be able to play, though I would follow in my father’s footsteps and serve in the army. My life consisted of waking up, doing day jobs, going to school, going home and doing even more chores. Everyone on the base had some discipline, but my father was a sergeant and it was a different level of discipline.

One day my father said that we have a university coach here, so go listen, get advice from him and maybe one day you will be good. So I came to him and he asked, “How long have you been serving?” I said I didn’t serve, I’m not in the army, I’m only 13. From that day on, he sent me letters, sent me motions on pieces of paper, ”O’Neal said.

As part of the university team, the player was able to win many competitions in different leagues of the United States and several times to get to the symbolic team of America among players of his age. Such success attracted the attention of NBA scouts, who very soon offered the player a contract with the Orlando Magic Club. A seven-year, $ 40 million salary contract is still a record for all newcomer basketball players on the planet.

Then, during his career, O’Neill played in many other clubs. In particular, his track record includes teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers, the Miami Heat, the Phoenix Suns, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Boston Celtics. As a part of these teams, the player has four times become an NBA champion and has been awarded many other awards. In 1996, Shaquille O’Neill became the youngest player to be ranked among the 50 best basketball players in the NBA’s history. For fifteen consecutive seasons (!), the legendary sportsman took part in an NBA All-Star game. But in his own opinion, he would have never have achieved it if in the right time Dale Brown did not help him become what he is!
