Being a part of the National Football League and having the status of a superstar isn’t always related to being a law-abiding citizen. A surprisingly high amount of NFL players chose the slippery slope and illustrated that even professional players can be sinful and destroy their own lives and the lives of other people with wrongful and criminal acts. We have already told you about football players with poor reputations. Today we tell about criminals among NFL players.

Darryl Henley

A former cornerback drafted by Los Angeles Rams in 1989. Hanley played 76 professional games but never managed to forge any legacy in the NFL. He`s known for several crimes from which he has a 31-year prison sentence. The foul play was entertaining: Henley not only was trafficking cocaine but also hired contract killers to assassinate a judge and the witness from his trial.

He was drafted in the 2002 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints. Donté played for five more teams and had spectacular results. For his whole career, Stallworth had 321 receptions, 4837 receiving yards, and 35 receiving touchdowns. Like many other promising sportsmen, Donté fell victim to alcohol. He was charged with a DUI manslaughter after he struck 59-year old Mario Reyes with his car.  Donté got off easy and received a sentence of 30 days in jail plus 1000 hours of community service.

In July 2007, he was indicted on federal felony charges for operating and financing dog fights which are strictly not legal. Vick`s and some of his friends` violent actions against dogs led to the investigation. The case was huge but due to a guilty plea submitted by Vick, he received a 3-year prison sentence and $2500 fine.

He was found guilty on April 15, 2015, and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Ben Roethlisberger

This NFL player is known for becoming the youngest Superbowl-winning quarterback in National Football League history. Ben was accused of sexual assault in 2009 and 2010. Andrea McNulty filed a suit against him claiming that Roethlisberger raped her in Narrah’s Hotel in July 2008. The case was settled out of court. Another accident was reported by an anonymous college student who alleged that Roethlisberger raped her in her bathroom. He wasn`t prosecuted this time too and the only punishment was a suspension from the NFL for six games. Whatever were the reasons for these two scandals, Ben`s reputation was badly damaged and never recovered.

Conclusion

We have observed that superstars can be criminals. A life of luxury doesn`t save them from criminal behavior. More than that, some of them have done terrible things and might not ever feel like they had crossed a line.
