A potential fight with UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov with former welterweight and lightweight champ Georges St-Pierre has come to be one of the most desired by MMA fans ever. GSP has recently shared his thought regarding this.
Wanna-see for everyone
Recently GSP has shared his thoughts about fighting Eagle in the near future. Khabib`s coach said not so long ago that if he defeats Gaethje in October, fighting against St-Pierre next will not only mean he achieves an incredible record of 30-0. But will also determine the Eagle`s place among the greatest fighters in this sport.
Chances are slim
Unfortunately, Georges is not so optimistic on this point. First of all, he doubts that UFC will give him a fight in 155 as St-Pierre has previously “run away” with the welterweight and middleweight titles. He believes that cutting weight to meet the requirements of the lightweight division might affect his performance.
GSP doesn`t like his chances against Khabib as well. As he stated: “He [Khabib] walks around at a heavier weight than me. He’s like over 185 when he’s offseason, he’s close to 200 and I’ve never been 200 pounds in my life.” Age will also be important. St-Pierre is turning 40 soon and by taking these two things into account, chances of GSP being able to fight Eagle are quite low.
Apart from that, Georges has certain issues with training. “Now it’s COVID, so of course I can’t train because it’s illegal to train combat sports here.” – says GSP. As for the chance that the fight will happen, according to St-Pierre, it is incredibly low.
Conclusion
As we`ve observed, St-Pierre, former two-weight champion, doesn`t seem to believe that he can return and fight against the unbeaten lightweight champ. As a matter of a fact, it can only be a distraction for warming up public attention, and St-Pierre might appear in the octagon the first time since 2017. Money talks, after all, and if Dana pays enough attention to it, the clash is poised to happen.
Will there be a fight Khabib vs GSP? What do you think?
