Last week, the Nets fired last week by head coach Kenny Atkinson. One of the candidates for the vacant position, according to media reports, is past Cavaliers’ coach Tyronn Lue.
So how did basketball star Tyronn get to the coaching bench? And what are the thoughts of his NBA colleague on his possible appointment as coach for the Nets?
In 2000, Tyronn Lue spent the first three years of his career with the Lakers, but came out of the shadows only once – in the finals of 2001, Lue played against Iverson, and he went down in basketball history.
In 2003, Lue briefly crossed with Doc Rivers in Orlando, making him a starting player. In 2009, when Lue completed his career, Rivers called him to be part of his coaching team – first as a player development coach, then one of his assistants (already at the Clippers).
In the summer of 2014, Tyronn Lue became the highest-paid assistant working in the NBA – his contract is 6.5 million for four years, more than some head coaches get. Lue claimed to be a Cleveland coach, but in the end, the Cavaliers preferred to see David Blatt in that position and made an unprecedented offer to assistant Rivers for safety.
And on January 23, 2016, he was named head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was released on October 29, 2018, after the Cavaliers began the 2018-19 season with six defeats.
After his release, Kenny Atkinson Stephen A Smith called, in his opinion, the only three candidates for the post of head coach of “Brooklyn”.
“As far as I understand, there are only three candidates for this position. One of them is Tyronn Lue. But remember, Kira Irving wanted to leave Cleveland when Tyrone Lue was in charge. However, he is a champion and a hell of a good coach, let’s respect that”.
Lakers’ Forward Jared Dudley spoke about Tyronn Lue’s possible position as Brooklyn’s head coach.
“It would not be a surprise to me. Lue is an incredible coach and his tactical expertise is underestimated,” Dudley said.
Brooklyn quarterback Joe Harris shared the opinion of Tyronn Lue, who is called one of the favorites for the Nets head coach.
“From a coaching perspective, his ability to interact with players daily was unique, given that he had played in the league for a long time and was an assistant coach. I always liked it, the way it builds relationships with everyone, ” Harris said.
