Stanley Cup finals in 2020 were held in a 24-team format. Due to the recent coronavirus outbreak, it was decided to conduct the event behind closed doors. The event itself, originally scheduled to the early-mid summer, was postponed and has eventually started on August 1 with the final game been played on September 28.

The lightning does strike twice!

As for the Stanley Cup finals, those have started on September 19. Two conference winners have met at Rogers Place, situated in Edmonton, Canada. The whole building was thoroughly isolated from the rest of the city due to the rigorous health protocols. There have met the Eastern Conference winner Tampa Bay Lightning and the Western Conference winner Dallas Stars.

We’ll save your time and say it immediately. Even though the Stars have tried to compete they couldn`t stand Lightning`s pressure and were defeated with a score of 4-2, thus making them the 2020 Stanley Cup champions. That is the second Cup for Lightning since they’ve won one in 2004 by defeating Calgary Flames.

The trophy presented

TBL captain Steven Stamkos was presented the trophy by the NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman. The captain could hardly fight the proper words to comment on his team victory. Stamkos has expressed respect for all the players and told that it’s just an amazing moment for him and the whole team. “It doesn’t feel real” – he also added.

Conn Smythe Trophy winner

In terms of these words, the Lightning captain was just the same as the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs MVP and the Conn Smythe Trophy winner – defenseman Victor Hedman. He’s rightfully named the MVP because of his incredible efficiency. He scored 10 goals during the playoff which is the third-best result in the Stanley Cup history. Hedman commented that it`s going to take a long time to sink out. He’s been humbled and grateful to his team. Well, that what we love him for.

MVP goalie

Another contender for the Conn Smythe Trophy was the Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy who’s managed to block all 22 shots from the Stars in their 6th game. Thus, it’s ended with a score of 2-0. “It`s the most important moment of our lives” – commented Vasilevskiy an incredible victory of Tampa Bay Lightning.

What’s more

The celebration continued on Twitter. According to the City of Tampa twits, the whole city is being blue today in support of the champs. They’ve also obtained congrats from their compatriots TB Rays and TB Buccaneers.
