The NBA officials keep changing the date of the 2020 lottery draft. The freshest news says that the Draft Lottery is finally going to take place on August 20. The draft itself is taking place shortly after the playoffs on October 16.

Wind of changes

COVID-19 has already changed the way sports operate today. It is the first time in the last 45 years that the draft wasn’t conducted in June. The Lottery draft was scheduled on May 19, 2020, but it is as it is, the dates have changed, same as the place. Originally scheduled to be held at Barclays Center in New York, it’s now changed to Bristol, Connecticut.

What about the lottery?

The lottery draft is taking place in the United Center, Chicago. It will determine which team will own No. 1 pick, who will own No. 2. and so forth. There’ll be eight teams that do not play the resumed 2019-2020 NBA season and six teams that missed playoffs. Those six teams, however, won’t have higher picks than those who missed the resumed season. Teams with the worse records have bigger chances to make it to a top-four pick.

What’s up with teams?

Here are the teams in descending order with the best lottery odds based on their records before the season suspension on March 11th due to the pandemic: Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons, New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls, and Charlotte Hornets.

Six teams that didn’t advance to the playoffs: Washington Wizards, Phoenix Suns, San Antonio Spurs, Sacramento Kings, New Orleans Pelicans, and Portland Trail Blazers. But that being said, those six teams won’t have a higher pick than the eight that have missed the resumed season. The draft order for other teams will be based on their regular-season records.
